WEAR Flattering DRESS FOR
APPLE SHAPE BODY
Apple shape body is wider at the waistline with relatively narrower hips and shoulders.
Select a silhouette that creates an illusion of a waistline and distract from the mid section
Long Dress: A-line and other flared dresses such as ballgown look great on you as they naturally flare out from the midsection.
Knee Length: A-line and fit & flare dresses with sleeveless V-neck or spaghetti strap. Make shift dress work for you by wearing a belt with the same color as your dress, so that it creates a subtle illusion of a waistline.
Avoid narrow and high necks. Best option is deep V-neck.
Choice of fabric too could make a difference. Choose raw silk, linen, cotton, linen-cotton blend and cotton-silk blend.
Looks great with dainty pendant or a thin chain
Wear fitted for
Hourglass body
Hourglass body shape has a narrow waist with hips and shoulders of almost same width.
Select a dress that follows your body's natural silhouette by proportionally dressing the top and bottom of the body while accentuating the waist. Do not make it either top- or bottom-heavy.
Long Dress: Hourglass bodies look great in fitted dresses such as A-Line, Sheath and Trumpet. Empire waist and high waist with flares look great.
Knee Length: Hourglass bodies are blessed with small waist, so adding a belt to the shift dress will highlight one of your best assets. Fit & Flare and sheath dresses too compliment the curvy body perfectly.
V-neck, round-neck-sleeveless, round-neck-cap sleeves, square round, and boat necks along with appropriate sleeve lengths are recommended.
Define waistline
ATHLETIC (Rectangle) BODY
Athletic (rectangle) body shape is less curvy and has almost same shoulder, waist and hip width
Select a dress that defines the waistline by breaking up the rectangle.
Long Dress:
Unlined, A-Line or Trumpet with Halter Neck, Cowl Neck, V-neck and Round Neck.
Knee Length Dress:
Shift dresses go with your natural body contour. If you want to add more curves, you can try adding a belt with the shift dress.
Trapeze dress adds the appearance of curves
A-line is universally flattering. Always consider it as an option
Narrow necklines such as turtlenecks, mandarin, crew, funnel, cowl and halter necklines look great on rectanlge body with appropriate silhouettes
Any sleeve length looks great on athletic body, with balanced dress silhoette and length, for example a Tea Lenght A-Line with 3/4th sleeves
More fitted for
Pear (Triangle) Body
Pear shape (triangle) body has wider hips, defined waist and broader hips.
Select dresses that take attention away from the wider hips and to draw it towards the upper body and defined waist.
Long Dress: A-line, pricess cuts and trumpet dresses with low necklines on front and back and belted waists also look great on pear bodies.
Knee Length & Midis: A pear-shaped body is especially flattered in a trapeze style, as this cut shows off a slender upper body and skimsover wider hips. The straight up and down silhouette of shift dress (knee length or an inch above knee) bring less attention to your hips and thighs. A-line dress (fit & flare) de-emphasizes bottom and are generally flattering to women of pear shape.
V-neck on any silhoette, cowl neck on unlined slips and round necks on A-line are recommended in particular.
Accessories: Bold necklaces and big earring such as chandeliers compliment above combinations
Add curve to
Inverted Triangle body
The inverted triangle body shape has broad upper section (broad shoulders and / or bust) with narrow mid and lower section, down to the hips.
Select silhouette and patterns that add volume and curve to your lower body.
Long Dress: A-line and Trumpet (or mermaid) dresses look great.
Knee Length: A-line and fit & flare dresses with pleats in particular add volume to your lower body. Shift dress could also work with flattering pattern.
Select necklines that are slim and long, such as deep V-neck and deep scoop to visually reduce the width of the upper body
